Realme 2 Review :anew kind of notch, impressive screen

Price: Rs 13,990 onwards
Rating: ****1/2

Realme-2

Realme 2 Review

Realme 2 Not very long ago, we were mighty impressed with the Realme 1. This first product was designed to be a market disruptor — great design, features, performance & specs at low prices. Then came the Realme 2 and we were a bit puzzled because it was a step down from the Realme 1. But now that we have used the Realme 2 Pro, the strategy is clear. In hindsight, the company should have probably released both products (Realme 2 & 2 Pro) at the same time and they should have called them 2 Lite and 2 Pro. But naming conventions aside, the 2 Pro is a really good phone. Allow us to explain why.

For starters, it has the new kind of notch — the tiny one. We know that the notch in general is not seen as a feature anymore and many have even taken a dislike to it. But this kind of teardrop (or Dewdrop, as Realme calls it) notch is a natural progression which will ultimately lead to the true full screen, bezel-free design — what we’ve seen on the Vivo NEX and Oppo Find X. The screen itself is really nice: FHD+ resolution, vibrant colour, good viewing angles and high contrast.

It’s interesting to note that Realme is Oppo’s sub-brand and that Oppo and Vivo are essentially part of the same umbrella brand (BBK Electronics). Anyhow this tiny notch is far less obtrusive in normal use and even in video, where you can pinch to zoom (and fill the screen). There’s no option to hide the notch in software but we think that would be counter-intuitive in this case. If you really don’t like having a notch, probably best to get a phone with 18:9 display.

There are three colours available: black, blue and light blue — all look good. We liked that a high quality screen guard is pre-applied and you get a basic transparent case in the box. The SIM tray accepts two nano SIMs plus a micro SD. Performance from the Snapdragon 660 is fantastic too. Think of it like a budget flagship processor with more than enough grunt for power users.

The camera is pretty good for the price too. There’s load of features, 4k video recording and a full expert mode too (manual white balance, focus, shutter speed, ISO and exposure). Plus there are AI features, filters, portrait, panorama, time lapse and live stickers. Camera performance is snappy and we got great results in good light. There’s no stabilization though, so video suffers. Battery life from the 3,500mAh battery is a full day — no complaints.

This phone is still trying to build down to a price, after all. So what you see on the back is not glass — it’s a highly glossy, glass-like, laminated polycarbonate. The effect is convincing but it won’t be as resistant to scratches as Gorilla Glass. There’s no USB type C and it doesn’t include superfast Vooc charge. The frame is painted polycarbonate too, so these are the compromises you make if you want performance and the tiny notch at this kind of price. Overall though, the Realme 2 Pro gets a big thumbs up from us — they’re proving yet again that they know what the Indian user wants.

Facebook introduces 3D photos in News Feed,VR

Facebook is rolling out 3Dphotos in News Feedand Virtual Reality (VR) to enable users to view and create 3D photos with life-like dimensions including depth and movement.

Users would have choices to adjust and experiment with creating multiple layers, contrasting colours and textures in order to create photos in 3D.

"Everyone will be able to see 3D photos in News Feed and VR today, while the ability to create and share 3D photos begins to roll out today," the Facebook 360 team wrote in a blog-post on Thursday.

The technology behind 3D photos captures the distance between the subject in the foreground and the background.

"Just take a photo in 'Portrait' mode using your compatible dual-lens smartphone, then share as a 3D photo on Facebook where you can scroll, pan and tilt to see the photo in realistic 3D,"

The social networking giant would also allow users to view 3D photos in VR using the "Oculus Go" browser or Firefox on Oculus Rift by dragging, tapping or tilting their heads to experience the three dimensions in photos.

The feature would be available to everyone in the coming weeks.

"We're listening to feedback on this new format and we continue rolling it out to everyone," the post added.

The feature was announced earlier in May by Facebook, during its "F8" event

The next version of Wi-Fi is coming(free wifi near me)

wifi upgrade
The Wi-Fi Alliance has finally decided to introduce a proper nomenclature for its different versions. The organisation has named the next-generation of Wi-Fi technology as Wi-Fi 6. Those devices that will support Wi-Fi 6 will be called "Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6" starting 2019.

For those unaware, Wi-Fi Alliance is the worldwide network of companies that offers Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi certification ensures that devices are tested for interoperability, backward compatibility, and Internet security.

Free Wifi

The Wi-Fi 6 technology is meant for devices that support 802.11ax technology. With the new naming approach, the Wi-Fi Alliance aims to make it easy for users to understand the differences in the Wi-Fi technologies and also know which device supports which version of Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi 6 is meant to identify devices that support 802.11ax technology while Wi-Fi 5 will identify devices that support 802.11ac technology. On the other hand, Wi-Fi 4 to identify devices that support 802.11n technology. Wi-Fi 6 is expected to an improved experience to address device and application needs in a range of consumer and enterprise environments.

“For nearly two decades, Wi-Fi users have had to sort through technical naming conventions to determine if their devices support the latest Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi Alliance is excited to introduce Wi-Fi 6, and present a new naming scheme to help industry and Wi-Fi users easily understand the Wi-Fi generation supported by their device or connection," said Edgar Figueroa, president and CEO of Wi-Fi Alliance.

In addition to describing the capabilities of the device, device manufacturers or OS vendors can incorporate the generational terminology in User Interface (UI) visuals to indicate the current type of Wi-Fi connection. The UI visual will adjust as a device moves between Wi-Fi networks so users have real-time awareness of their device connection.

PUBG Mobile servers are down currently for the 0.8.0 Sanhok Update

The new will be bringing a host of new features along with the much awaited Sanhok map.

Update: The server update is now over and the servers are back up.
One of the most popular, if not the most popular game on smartphones right now is PUBG Mobile from Tencent Games, and players will be excited by the fact that a new map and bunch of other new stuff is coming to the game tomorrow. But as of now, the servers of the game is down for maintenance.
This was a scheduled maintenance downtime that was announced by Tencent Games on the PUBG Mobile Twitter handle. Devs will be using this downtime to update the servers with the new map and content for launch tomorrow. Players will be prompted to update their game versions tomorrow to be able to play the new Sanhok map.
For those that are not yet aware of what to expect from the new update here’s a recap of the new things coming to PUBG Mobile with the 0.8.0 update:

New Map: Sanhok

Apart from the existing two maps – Erangel and Miramar – PUBG Mobile is set to get the the highly-anticipated Sanhok added as the third map for classic mode. The new map is based on tropical rainforests of South-East Asia, and is significantly smaller than the other two maps in the game, at about half of the size. The number of players starting a game will still be 100, so this will lead to a larger concentration of players in a smaller area with more guns available, quicker intense fighting, and as a result, quicker games.

New Vehicles: Bulletproof UAZ and Muscle Car

A couple of new large vehicles have been added to the game as well, which are larger and offer better protection and performance while driving in the game. The UAZ is a variant of the SUV that is already present in the game, while the muscle car is among the better looking vehicles in the game.

New Weapon: QBZ

The QBZ is an assault rifle that uses the game’s standard 5.56mm ammo. It will likely be replacing the Scar-L in the Sanhok map

Other features

Some additional, relatively smaller features are a part of the new version, including giving the player apples to throw at others in the pre-game waiting area, and changes to the UI and settings including limits on auto-pickup of ammo. Interestingly, the 8X scope will no longer randomly spawn on the Sanhok map, although it will be available in air drops. The M24 rifle too won’t be available with the crate drops.
